A decade ago, no one would have believed it. But today, a new poll suggests the unthinkable has happened: more Democrats are now siding with China over their own country in a trade dispute with the United States.

That’s not exaggeration—it’s a documented fact.

In a national survey I co-conducted with Rasmussen Reports for The Heartland Institute, 32% of likely Democratic voters say they want China to come out ahead in the ongoing tariff standoff. Only 30% say they prefer a win for the Trump administration. The remaining 38%? They’re undecided.

Among Republicans, the picture looks entirely different: 88% say they want the Trump team to prevail. Just 16% of voters identifying as independents or "other" favor a Chinese victory.

Think about that: more Democrats are now rooting for a regime that jails dissidents, silences free speech, and persecutes religious minorities—just to oppose a former U.S. president.

This isn’t merely troubling—it’s a betrayal of basic American loyalty.

These poll numbers reveal a disturbing evolution within the modern Democratic Party. Hatred for Trump has grown so intense that many Democrats now appear willing to side with America’s most powerful enemy just to see him lose.

This isn’t a debate about trade theory. Americans can and should debate tariffs and economic strategy. But that’s not what this is about. It’s about actively hoping a totalitarian state defeats the United States—not because of any well-reasoned position, but simply because Trump is involved.

That’s not normal political disagreement. It’s blind partisanship turned into a kind of national self-loathing.

Some might chalk this up to voter confusion. But everyone knows what the Chinese Communist Party represents. This is the same regime that misled the world about COVID-19, steals U.S. intellectual property, and fuels its economy with forced labor.

Still, a sizable number of Democratic voters would rather see Beijing win.

This kind of thinking exposes a deeper problem festering within progressive circles: an intense resentment for the foundational values that make America great—free markets, strength, independence, and patriotic pride. It’s no wonder the Left struggles to support its own country in a clash with a hostile foreign power.

The results of this survey should be a wake-up call to all Americans. We’re not just dealing with competing policy visions. We’re facing a deeper cultural rift—one that threatens the moral cohesion of the nation.

The assumption that we’re all on the same side when it comes to defending America’s interests no longer holds water. The numbers prove it.

The battle for America’s future isn’t only being waged in Congress or the White House. It’s playing out in living rooms and voting booths across the country—and based on this new data, it’s a fight we can’t afford to ignore.
